Jankovic ready for Australian Open

Serbia's Jelena Jankovic believes that she is ready to break her grand slam duck as she prepares to travel to Australia for the 2009 Australian Open.

Jankovic won 4 titles in 2008 and occupied the world number one ranking for short periods, but was unable to convert her form into a win in one of the grand slams.

The year ended on a frustrating note for Jankovic as she progressed to the final of the US Open before squandering her best chance to date of taking a grand slam title.

The Serbian star took only two weeks of vacation in Hawaii before returning to training in preparation for the Australian Open.

“I'm practising very hard to improve some of the sections of my game, to improve overall and to take my tennis game to the next level. I believe in myself and I believe my time will come," Jankovic told the AFP.

"I started training two weeks ago. I just came back from Mexico where I was in high altitude and the emphasis was on my fitness. I was doing a lot of running and spent a lot of hours in the gym trying to improve my strength and speed overall. I'm trying to get very strong and fit for next year and to minimise my injuries as much as I can control."
