Nalbandian rues Nadal's absence
Argentina's David Nalbandian has expressed regret over the fact that Rafael Nadal will not be participating in the 2008 Davis Cup final. Like many Argentineans Nalbandian believes that Nadal's presence would have added value to the tournament.
“I wanted Nadal to be in this final," Nalbandian told the Associated Press. "He is a friend of mine and missing this decisive chance is not nice at all. Now, things have changed a little bit, but we are focused on doing our best no matter which rival we play against.”
While some of the Argentinean players have welcomed the fact that they will not have to face Nadal in the Davis Cup final, team captain Alberto Mancini was quick to point out that the Spanish team is a class outfit event in the absence of the world number one.
“Spain, even without Nadal, are a very strong team," Mancini told reporters. "The guys are very motivated. All the rubbers are possible to be won because we are playing very well."
